"This is an Awesome tool!" 2008-04-26
By rustythevibeguy (Arkansas)
I bought this unit from my local tool store for almost $1000 about a year ago (I was in a hurry). It is absolutely amazing how quickly it bores holes, and they are burr free, front and backside. Get one with a case because you are not going to want this tool banging around in the back of your truck. It's really hard to describe how well it works. The weight is just right: nice "heft" and I had no trouble positioning it above my head on a vertical beam in my shop.

 "Worth every penny!" 2004-03-05

If you have to drill hundreds of holes, this is the tool. I had to drill about 175 holes through the flange of W14x43 steel. This size steel has 1/2" thick flanges. I drilled a 7/16" hole through in seconds. It's amazing! The magnet is very powerfull. I put all my weight (175lbs) on it and it wouldn't budge. It comes with a safety strap and use it, especially if your working with a crew that might accidently cut off your power supply for what ever reason. It paid for it self on this one job for me.

 "What was I think 2!!" 2009-11-09
By D. Munchel
I also bought this over the summer after buying a Grizzly Band saw (BTW, I really enjoy the band saw) but after putting this thing together and putting a 1/2 " flat hole bit to create a simple hole in a 1.5 " thick oak, the bit would stop with the slightest pressure as if it can't do it. Come on, 1/2 amp can't even drill a simple hole? I then put a simple 1/4" bit in and it too would stop with some added pressure. This thing has NO muscle!!! Granted, I didn't expect too much but this is rediculous. Even the drum sanding portion is about worthless. Can't sand anything with such little power.

"Displeased with this drill press." 2009-06-22
By Jay Crawford
After assembling this drill press, it would not operate. I checked it out thoroughly using the manual that came with it and found no apparent problems. I was not please with the quality of the components and have returned it for a refund. I plan to purchase a 12" Delta drill press as it is much more solidly built. It costs more but, I guess you get what you pay for.

"Medium + Quality for the small shop." 2007-03-19
By Common Grade Woodworker (Earth)
I purchased this as an upgrade from my old (cheap) drill press. I was drawn to the secondary "oscillating" feature and the Grizzly name (as the selling vendor).

The product arrived with a broken switch. I reported the issue (via email) to Shop Fox and Grizzly. Grizzly CS responded quickly and shipped a replacement part right away - all at their expense. I get the feeling that they would be willing to help if anything else was amiss.

The H0625 Drill Press itself meets my expectations for quality and features based on the price paid. At some point I will upgrade again but, so far, this drill press has served me well.

 "What was I thinking?" 2007-03-12
By Richard L. Shoop
I have purchased one other tool from Grizzly a couple of years back, and was not happy about the product nor the total lack of service from Grizzly. I bought this small seemly nice drill press from them under the name of Shop Fox, thinking things would be different. I am very disappointed at the lack of quality control. The motor housing was bent to the point that the machine would not work. But worse, a switch wire was hanging out of the switch housing. The wire was pinched down to the bare wire between the switch housing and the drill case, which would have cause a short to the drill press causing a potential shock or fire or both. I replaced the wire myself, because I didn't want to haggle with Grizzly. It isn't worth the frustration. This will be the last time I will ever buy anything from Grizzly (Shop Fox). I am surprised that Amazon will front a company that is so shabby.

"Another made in china POS." 2009-12-10
By Tim Kuhlman Abb (TN USA)
Had I known this item was made in china I would not have bought it. The write up made it seem like it was made in the states but don't be fooled as it is not. The first thing I noticed was the rack gear for the table was assembled upside down according to their manual. The second item was the tapered chuck. It would not stay in the spindle until we put a small piece of paper inbetween the taper. I should of bought the delta instead. The good reviews must of been written by a "importer" as this is as crude of a drill press as they come. This item is a waste of natural resources!

 "Solid." 2009-08-14
By Eric Cartman
If you're looking for the premier bench drill press, this is it. Rock solid, well packaged, easy belt adjustment, quiet, vibration-free. This cannot be said of its competition. Comparing this to a Delta is laughable. Spend the extra $100, this drill is worth it.

"Great Drill Press - once it turns in the correct direction!" 2006-06-07
By John Myers (Kirkland, WA)
I've had this drill press for a few weeks now, and it is a wonderful machine. Assembly was straight forward. The only difficulty was the weight. Make sure you have help in lifting the head/motor onto the column. Then an additional hand lifting the whole works onto the bench is very useful. I concur with the previous reviewer - this is a heavy drill press.

Once I had it in place I tried it out. As I started drilling, smoke came from the wood, and it wasn't drilling very well. I looked at it and realized the spindle was turning in the wrong direction - counter-clockwise! There is no switch to reverse the direction. I called Palmgren tech support and was told that I needed to swap a couple of wires (wires 5 and 6). I unscrewed the plate at the bottom of the motor, and pulled out the two sets of wires. One bundle had wires 1,3,6 (plus one wire from the cord). The second set of wires were 2,4,5 (plus one from the cord). The bundled wires should be 1,3,5 and 2,4,6 (all even and all odd) plus a wire each from the cord.

The wires were labeled with the numbers, so identifying wires 5 and 6 was easy. I switch the two around, put everything back in place and tried the drill press again.

It works wonderfully now - just like it should. I considered giving this review 4 stars because of the wiring foul-up, but correcting the situation only took 10 minutes. True, it shouldn't have been a problem to begin with, and points to a quality control issue (I hear these machines are made in China - like most other woodworking equipment these days). But the machine works perfectly.

I like the fact that it has a 5" spindle movement - which is very nice when you need to drill deep holes - which I do with my pen making. Adjusting the belts is a simple matter, and only takes a minute. The table is firm and the drill press itself is very steady. Most importantly, it drills holes that are straight and true.

This drill press costs more than most bench-top models, but I'm very pleased with having a quality piece of equipment.

 "Solid, well-built machine" 2005-11-01
By Pen Name
When they say this is "Heavy Duty" they aren't kidding. I bought this for my home woodshop - I was attracted by its 5" length of spindle travel (most other drill presses sold today have only about 3 1/2" of travel - what's up with that?) From the look of it I would say that it is built to withstand daily industrial use in a machine shop. It weighs about 200# and has the same heft as a floor-standing model but at about half the height; it is therefore too large not to be permanently mounted on a table. The fit/finish is outstanding. The table is strong and heavy and I can't deflect it with my weight. The depth stop works well and is extremely easy to adjust. Preliminary small gripes include: no central hole in the table for drilling "through" wooden pieces, and no mechanism to lock the spindle in lowered position for rotary sanding. Both of these can be overcome with simple jigs. One thing's for sure: I will never outgrow this drill press.

"Well-built and does the job." 2010-04-03
By Cheryl L. Neuroth (Michigan)
Overall, I am happy with this machine. It is well-built, but there is a slight wobble in the chuck. This could, however, be how I installed it. I'm going to try redoing that.

It is larger and higher than I expected for a benchtop drill press. It is very heavy because it is a floor-model remade to a bench-model. It is too high to be on my regular 36" bench. I had to have a lower, very sturdy table to set this on, which I hadn't planned on.

Still, it does a good job. I wanted to drill into 3/4" steel and it does this very well.

"The best benchtop drill press I could find." 2010-03-04
By Brian Mathe (Modesto, Ca United States)
I looked around for quite a while for a quality drill press. I kept going back to an 2008 issue of Fine Woodworking magazine that rated this drill press top dog. I'm glad I did, because this drill press is a solid, durable machine. It's compact and has plenty of power. Even after I bought this drill press, I kept looking around at other machines, to compare mine to the others. I can honestly say that I am happy with my purchase and would do it again.

 "Great Drill Press!!!!" 2009-06-23
By GPDMTR25 (Sunny California)
I decided to write this review since it didn't have a very good rating. I've had my drill press since April 2008 and I use it quite often. I haven't had any problems. It does everything I need. It drills very straight without wobble. I do woodworking and pen turning. It was easy to set up, although it was very heavy so I needed assistance placing the top portion on the lower portion. Like one reviewer wrote, it's a table top but it's not small. It's works and acts like a full size press. If you're looking for a press that is portable or that you can move around your bench, this isn't for you. I put mine on a cabinet I built that has wheels so I can move it around the garage.

I would highly recommend it.

***May 25, 2010 Update***

Still using the drill press, a lot, and still working great and I would still recommend it.

 "Jet Bench Drill Press" 2008-05-04
By Joe (NY)
I just received my drill press. The handle that raises the table is too short to reach anything and consequently, the table cannot be raised or lowered unless it is done manually without use of the handle. Did anyone have this problem?

When I called Jet they told me to take it to a repair shop. It is brand new why do I need it repaired?

Thanks.

 "great drill press" 2008-02-27
By J. richardson (troy, New York USA)
I was looking for a benchtop drill press, and decided to get the jet. It is called a bench top drill press but i think that it is a full size drill press on a short pole. The table top is the biggest in its class. Changing speeds and setting the depth stop are excellent. Spend the extra money for a 3/4 hp instead of a 1/2 or 1/3 hp. Just another great jet product.
